I actually have no idea how I got to December. Not because I have a reckless lifestyle and take major risks but because time keeps flowing as you're fixated on something small yet huge to you. I can clearly recall the days of summer I spent in Hampstead Heath in my denim cut-offs, tank tops and usually with a Frappuccino. I don't know if I miss summer, I miss the time of summer when I felt so carefree that time didn't matter. I didn't need a phone or a watch. What you did need is sunscreen. With winter it's different, you need a hat and a scarf, and tights (sometimes two pairs if you want to wear a dress). The season is beautiful but uncomfortable. I hate how my day is limited no only by multiple layers but also by a lack of light. I love the night only not the kind where the roads are frosted and I am in danger of slipping and breaking something. It quickly becomes mundane and routine: get out of bed and shiver, pull on a variation of jeans/trousers/jumper/over sized jumper/ankle boots. There aren't many ways to keep warm either. Hot chocolate becomes sickening and drinking hot mulled wine is frowned upon in college. This brings me, kind of, to my current favourite perfume: Tom Ford's Black Orchid. The scent is very delicious, a little like mulled wine but richer with a more complex nature of scent. Some may say that it's too mature or an evening fragrance but it does give me positivity on a day when I can't seen because snowflakes are in my eyes. It's very luxurious, so much so that a dull outfit feels more...charming? Well, something like that. I'm now looking to get some Tobacco&Vanille fragrance from his Private Blends Collection so if anyone wants to make happier, I'll give you an address you can send it to...

Last week, I went to Paris. It was only for a day but it was amazing fun as I strolled along the Seine and ate cheese in some tiny Parisian cafe. Interestingly, when discussing outfits between me and my friends, we never really touched on the subject of bags and yet when we all met that very early morning, we all carrying a variation of a brown, leather bag. Maybe fashion influences us in ways that we can't even imagine but I like to think of it as being on the same wave-lengths as the people that understand you most.

Somehow, I ended up wearing an outfit that was almost entirely from Zara. This was no intentional. Dress/blazer/shoes: Zara. Brown leather doctor's bag: vintage.

The Woman

August has just began but Elle, Vogue and many other magazines have shifted focus from bikinis to boots. Stores have also flooded with all things camel (arguably the new season's hottest shade) so this brought a thought into my mind about something that is supposedly back. The Woman.
This calls for an explanation. 'The Woman' is a trend that was conjured up on the runways of Louis Vuitton and Prada. Other designers clearly made clothing for women however it was those two that somehow captured the essence of femininity. Both collections displayed subdued hues, midi-length, some sort of hourglass shape and frills. These things could be viewed as synonymously womanly. I just want to know why in the A/w10 we're still regressing to the past when looking for something feminine. Prada seems to tell me that some ruffles on my boobs will do the trick of enhancing not only my bust but also my view of what it is to be a woman. Louis Vuitton just pushes all that you have (in the chest area) upwards and puts it on display whilst pairing those kind of tops with flared out skirts albeit, sometimes, in leather which makes it more interesting. Another thing to annoy me? The claim by magazines, that have bitten, chewed, and spit out the designer messages, 'curves are back'. Trouble is, they're masquerading under this slogan because what they really want to say is 'it's okay to have boobs this season'. Designers should dictate fashion and not body shapes but that's a whole other article.
Back to the clothes now. We all know that the times are hard with the economic downturn and design houses also suffer so they're reverting to old tricks to try and showcase collections that connote better times. However the 50's and 60's had troubles of their own so are the designers really just following the trend set up by Mad Men? I have never seen the show but references in fashion magazines have allowed me to conjure up a pretty solid image of the aesthetic that the show sells: glamour and sex in the location of an office in the 60's. Marc Jacobs has admitted to watching Jersey Shore so I can forgive if he's keeping the inspiration for his Louis Vuitton collection secret in a bid to not look like he just copied. Muiccia Prada on the other hand said that she has never seen it so all hail coincidences, I guess? Fashion is shallow 90% percent of the time, admitting to it would help.

I don't think what that aesthetic of Mad Men presents is practical because times have moved on and I just can't see myself wearing a dress where my boobs are decorated and pushed up with a bit of my midriff also exposed. Maybe I can't comment on 'The Woman' trend because I'm still a girl but my intuition tells me that these collections were produced as a dress up for those looking to emulate some sort of past glamour. I just don't appreciate being told what it means to be a woman (girl) and how one should dress especially if its evocative of an era where a woman had to dress a particular way due to a lack of choice.

I decided to choose a few looks that I feel would represent the modern woman a lot better or at least fits it more with the idea of your own identity.

First up, it's Celine. Now, I don't work in an office and yet I appreciate just how amazingly well the clothes would look in a formal, business environment. The clean lines that accentuate the body without making any particular part jump out and the new use of leather. The simplicity of this look gives it sexiness and an edge. There's modesty in the skirt length but a leather top definitely pushes the boat to say that women in the 21st century are not afraid of unconventional fashion.

Micheal Kors delivered glamour, comfort and luxury all in the shade of camel. He made separates which could easily make their way into the wardrobe of women who could afford them. His collection looked practical due to the nature of individual pieces and yet none of them were overtly sexual. Each look had the right amount of chic without becoming dowdy or dull. I think it was the first time in my life I didn't mind an image of myself working in an office, only if I could wear that collection though...

Out of all the looks I saw (and I obsessively clicked through style.com as soon as each collection hit the web) Isabel Marant was the one that actually made me feel something. You see, it's difficult to describe but as I flipped between the images, I had this innate inner sense of 'this is what the woman of today looks like'. I realise that all women look differently and still, it felt like every piece had a purpose. I found it strange how Marant's designs made me think of someone feminine yet strong. The looks just feel so easy going with great styling. There's no forced sexiness or attempt at modesty that's evident in corset like garments or cleverly placed ruffles. Marant made clothes for women with comfort in mind without taking away style. I never thought that exposure of the ankle via cropped jeans could be so cool.

I want to live in Isabel Marant's world. I want to be the woman that can choose to either wear a skirt or a dress or a pair of jeans without compromising my feminine side. I want to look effortless and pulled together. I want clothes that represent choice and don't force stale ideas of sexuality upon me. As I said before, maybe at seventeen I am too young to understand 'The Woman' but I know which woman I would like to be.

Different Shades Of The Same Girl

Today I got to thinking about the importance and influence of hair colour on one's life. This was triggered by an article that I read in last month's (I think) British Elle. The article was written by a woman who dyed her hair from blonde to brunette. She went on to describe that she was happy because she no longer looked trashy in leopard print but builders stopped wolf-whistling at her so not all was good in brunette city.
At first I thought 'How dramatic' but after some consideration I realised how much my own hair colour affects me. I am naturally dark blonde and for about the past three years have been getting blonde champagne blonde high lights all over which brings me closer to the hair colour I actually desire (like Natasha Poly's) but don't have the guts to get. Bleaching my entire hair is a tad extreme for me. I love my hair that way and it's not because 'blondes have more fun' but because in my mind, I am supposed to be blonde therefore I feel my most comfortable and confident at that shade.
It is a hassle to keep up with all the highlights, it takes about three hours every eight weeks and it takes quite a bit of money. Money has to be spent on the actual hairdressing as well as products because peroxide doesn't make hair pretty. So, at the end of June, I marched into Superdrug and picked up two boxes of light brown hair dye. I applied it the following evening. That was it, years of being blonde was erased by twenty minutes of questionable hair dye. I looked in he mirror and saw a stranger. I looked paler but didn't mind it. The hair looked good but I felt strange. The next day I wore my leopard print jumpsuit together with my newly brown hair (Karlie Kloss shade) and maybe by coincidence didn't attract as much attention as I usually do. You see, that makes me sounds like I'm attention seeking. That's not it, it was just an indication that I was now someone else. Anyone but me.
The brown washed off slowly revealing small traces of my highlights. I had the choice of making an appointment with my hairdresser or grabbing another box of dye. I went shopping. I looked to Casting Creme Gloss to find me a suitable shade and came across 'Sweet Honey'. It promised to bring out my eyes and add golden tones to my hair. The shade itself could be described as golden blonde so I grabbed that and ran home. There's a strange kind of excitement attached to changing one's hair colour and if you do it yourself, an element of danger too. I should tell you that as I type this, I have kind of gingery hair colour a la Vlada which was unexpected. The 'Sweet Honey' did not turn out as expected and yet again, I wasn't disappointed since my skin suits the colour and my green eyes look yet greener.
Why is it then that I want to call my hair dresser, begging for an appointment to get a full head of blonde highlights? It has to be a strange psychological attachment that I have to my old hair colour, to my old character. Sure, I may be over thinking the whole hair colour thing but I am free to do so. The moral of this story is two-fold: get your hair done professionally and really think before doing so.

The Issue Of Size, Yes, Really

This isn't news to anybody but I was really angered by it last week hence the blogpost even thought I've pretty much abandoned my blog. Clothes shopping is usually fun, sometimes stressful and sometimes downright frustrating. This is made possible by the useless numbers stores print on their labels. I shall tell you a story. I wear size 8-10 which translates to 34-36 or a 'S'. I thought that this meant when I walk into a store, I can consult those indicators, buy and wear garments. Now, tops and dresses aren't really the offenders here. Trousers on the other hand are pure hell. I HATE YOU. Last week I ordered myself a pair of floral print skinny jeans from Miss Selfridge and went for my usual size 10 since that's the size I am in Topshop and they're sister companies, so you know, there's logic there. My jeans arrive and put them on only to realise that there's no way they're zipping up. Returned. Got a size 12. All is now good. A sale at United Colours of Benetton (not my usual shopping spot but it's a sale) prompted me to purchase a pair of raspberry coloured jeans. They looked quite small in store so I went for a 38 which is a 12 (not my actual size). Tried them on at home to find that getting them past my thighs is a problem. Returned. Actually, exchanged for a 42 and that's the UK equivalent of a size 16... I can continue but you will get bored. Sizes in stores are terrible and maybe that explains why I mostly buy my trousers from H&M who have been the only store to be consistent with sizing regardless of style. In Dorothy Perkins I have to get a size 8 because they're cut larger and Zara manages to make me feel constantly fat with an M feeling very snug around my hips. The point to all this is that fashion should be a tool to make you feel good about yourself. Sometimes I like to buy something pretty just because I'm feeling down however the effect is reversed when I have to buy a larger size. This isn't particularly about one size being 'fat' as opposed to another but it's not healthy for one's psyche. I am a certain size and would like to wear that size. Sure, cut out the label and all that, it sticks in your mind. I had a theory that perhaps stores like Zara and Benetton don't want certain sizes shopping in their stores and that's why their range is so limited. We all know that designers are 'Sizeist' and they're free to be so I guess. The high street cannot afford to do this because of their customer demographic and trust me I will think twice before buying trousers from Benetton ever again.

Hello? Is anyone actually there? Hello?!?! Please....Anyone? I'm being a tad dramatic but after such a long break from blogging I don't actually expect anyone to still care about my writing. I've been on a strange fashion lull, that's not to say that I've avoided fashion magazines or shops, I just haven't felt any real pull towards it. Collections floated by me and I couldn't care less. It was strange. However, my Vogue (British) arrived in the mail today. Once again, no excitement swept over me as I glanced at its slightly bland cover albeit with the lovely Freja on it. I started turning the pages and something magical started happening, as if all the colours and pretty metaphors lifted off the page and I inhaled them causing a fashion revolution inside my brain. I genuinely felt inspired as I turned the glossy pages and witnessed the new season take shape before my eyes.

I wanted to start with a post on the Gucci pre-fall campaign. That image just makes me want to live it, it's probably one of the only times I've really understood what the phrase 'buying into the lifestyle' means. The scene is so idyllic with the lounging beauties, sleek clothes, vintage car and elegant man. Clearly, this is as far removed from reality as possible, because lying on a car cannot be that comfortable and yet somehow, maybe if I purchased that dress I could live like that too? Dreaming is healthy, I won't hear anything otherwise.

I'm really lacking style inspiration as of lately. Whenever I peer into my wardrobe I get a sense of longing for a sheer, swallow-print Miu Miu blouse, a chiffon Givenchy dress or one of Prada's silky jackets. *LOUD SIGH* That won't happen, probably ever. So, I was surprised at how much the following images delighted my style instinct. The look is faultless: florals, lace, colour, rings...If I see this girl on the street, I will rob her of that outfit. Be warned.

I really do love tattoos. I think as long as they're tasteful and meaningful, there shouldn't be a reason not to get one. I also love seeing them photographed, it almost brings the idea of a tattoo to a higher realm and somewhat removing the negative connotations that can sometimes be ascribed to them. These tattoos are not my taste but I can appreciate the beauty of them.

The Sun Is Out But I'm Still In Shivers

ARRGGH! This inbetween-season confusion is not fun. One minute, when the sun is out, it's lovely and warm, then the wind appears from no where and you find yourself freezing in a chiffon dress and a denim jacket. So, this bring me to...trench coats. I know, it's an obvious choice but seriously, they're lifesavers. They're light enough to just carry on your arm and are long enough, in most instances, to cover the whole outfit so you don't have to worry about matching it. Also, lace and denim? I was afraid it's a little too 80's but it seems when worn with other very non-80's items, it can look both: cute and sophisticated. The one is the set is a D&G but I think a DIY project could produce something very similar (much cheaper too). I'm Beginning To Miss Him by Z♥LDN (Join.My.Blog.) featuring Burberry coats P.S. Got A Secret, Can You Keep It?

I shan't apologise for my long absence as life (read: coursework) has been the main occupant of my mind. However, I need to tell you that I have been brainwashed or perhaps just socially conditioned. I do not remember the last time Prada showed a collection that hasn't received rave reviews; when I first saw the palm prints, instant hatred flared inside. Few weeks later? I'm a little bit in love. 'Why?' I hear you cry. Possibly because it's a reminder of a simpler, more laid back lifestyle. Actually, it just looks quite pretty.

If you, like me, would like some tropical prints try Topshop as so far it's the only place I've seen that has done a semi-original yet Prada inspired print.

P.S. I'm also currently loving Rude Boy by Rihanna and Pass Out by Tinie Tempah. Suprisingly, I have not fallen and hurt my head :/

recently, I've found myself to be quite detached from fashion. I've been shopping and looked at all the latest offerings from New York fashion week and I still cannot connect to it like I did last season. The reason to me is obvious and I don't want to keep talking about it but it changed the view I have on fashion, maybe not for long but certainly for now.
I decided to not do what I usually do (review quite a few shows from each fashion week) but just go with it. If there's something nice I'll post it, I don't have much time or care for negativity. This thought brought me right to Proenza Schouler and their departure from the nu-rave-surf aesthetic into a grown-up school chic. When I first saw the collection I immediately though of Taylor Momsen with her love for thigh-highs, gothic lips and bleach hair: all elements combines on the catwalk created a great look. As for the clothes, simplicity ruled with statement scribble print that added a care-free element to the otherwise stern outfits. This collection is exactly what I want to wear today and not next season as it incorporates style and a sort of warmth without compromise on flirtiness and comfort (as long as we discard the hosiery that is).

It Was Not Your Fault But Mine And It Was Your Heart On The Line

It took a long time but I'm finally here. Indeed, it's time for me to tell why I disliked, well, Chanel. I understand that saying you don't like Chanel is like saying air isn't necessary for life in the fashion world but their couture show was just so...blah. Do you wonder what Coco Chanel would say about her brand now? Sure, it's about evolving with the times except it needs to remain, at least, nice. For the first time in my fashion life (around 3 years) have I had negative thoughts towards Chanel and to be honest this collection just pissed me off. It floated somewhere between dowdy and Lolita land whilst the fabric, in many cases, remained stiff. Some looks were OK but usually it's the majority that's a highlight whilst 1 or 2 are bloopers. Take Exhibit A, the model looks fat and she's half my size. Wearability points? None. I have to stop because I can taste the venom on my lips...However, the hair was kind of cute.

What happened here?!? This is Valentino! To start with, it looked like Herve Leger pret-a-porter and why on earth would Valentino, the brand the designer himself (obviously), do that? Gone is the glamour and understated beauty; it's been replaced with sherbet coloured mummy-bandages. I was genuinely upset to discover that this is the direction Valentino will be headed in. I applauded their ready-to-wear but thought that couture would remain true to the house's history. Clearly it's out with the old and in with the new.

I’ll Make It Through Each Day, Singing Death Or Glory

I contemplated for a while whether I should attempt a kind of review of the Spring Couture shows hence why I am so late. Turned out that indeed I had quite a few opinions and unfortunately not all of them positive. Before my I unleash my critique I thought I'd share who, in my opinion, made the best of Couture Week. Givenchy is one of my top 5 brands I look forward to seeing no matter what season or occasion so to no surprise I was extremely in love with many of the looks. It wasn't a departure from the 'usual' look of darkness and gothic love but Tisci built on it to create looks that would be coveted by women across the age ranges and not just teens who are desperate for Givenchy's over sized studs (I know I am). It was somewhat out of character to present the sequined jumpsuits, it looks a tad like Lanvin, although they made a great addition to the over all aesthetic.

I never really took notice of Armani Privé because I perceived it to be a brand about heavy beading and 'expected' Oscar dress choices for many starlets. Upon seeing the spring collection I somewhat changed my mind. It wasn't couture as one imagines it, theatrical and over the top, but wearable and ever so beautiful. I just want to run my hand along the seams of the silky fabrics as they look so perfectly constructed! Simple, clean and covetable.

Dior did what it did best: melodramatics. I'm not a particular fan because I cannot see anyone wearing this (many will say Lady Gaga or Daphne Guinness) however one day the collections will make a great museum exhibit. Still, this is couture and there's enough whimsy and creative ideas to make it interesting. Also this collection at least attempted to look different from the previous 2 or 3 that, in my mind, were no different from one another.

Elie Saab. It was all I anticipated the collection to be, in a good way. Must we always push boundaries and try to make something outrageous and expensive that looses its worth in over-the-top silhouettes? JUST NO! There is still beauty in exquisite dresses and nude palettes adorned with lace and intricate details. To me, Saab is much a classic couturier. There's a sense of history and couture is just that, not clothing to be worn but to be admired. Style.com was, in my opinion, incompetent to write that 'it was just a bit too fantasy-prom to cut it in Couture week'. The collection was angelic. To me couture should forever try and play on a fantasy for a woman that wants to escape the dreary pavements of the ordinary world and Saab succeeded in transporting a fragment of the sky into his creations.

I just wanted to let people know to be on the lookout for this amazing shoe designer, Beatrix Ong. Her shoes are not the 'deathly' spikes of Louboutin but something a little more out there and full of whimsy. The shoes are expensive but wait till the sale if you feel like purchasing a pair, prices are often reduced by up to 70%. Her designs can be bought from her website, Carnaby Street store or some branches of Jaeger.

Do not underestimate the heel height of these! This is Ong's take on the Victorian boot completed with a 12.5cm heel...basically, nightmare to walk in.

Today I visited Asos for the first time in a while and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it has moved on from nu-rave and is now selling really great looking fashion pieces. I took a screen print of the look book of their new collection. I have to to a special mention of these trousers as they are beautiful. I love the print and I think I'd love the fabric too. I'm not sure whether I or anybody with hips over 34" should attempt these but when they look that good how can one resist!

I did a photo shoot a while back with Oscar May and the whole concept was based around bright coloured cupcakes. The images were only beauty shots so I decided to style them for my imaginary editorial. We have reached a point in fashion where it is no longer enough to covet dresses or bags. Expensive jewellery is out too, currently it's about body art. On various catwalks transfer tattoos made an interesting appearance but it was Chanel that really caused a stir. You see, they're actually going to sell them. It all reminds me of when I was 6 and LOVED having a colourful butterfly somewhere on my arm, it only cost about 50p too. Undoubtedly Chanel's tattoos aren't half as trashy as my then butterfly. They have cleverly made them to look like some of their iconic accessories branded with those double c's. You can purchase your tattoos exclusively from Chanel boutiques from March 12. The cost of such fashion innovation/experimentation? £49 for five sheets that will include 55 designs.

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of going to a play, An Inspector Calls. Even though it is not a huge theatre but something a little more intimate, still, in the heart of Leicester Square so I decided to at least wear a dress. What I discovered upon arriving there is that no body else bothered to get their glad rags on. It was all jeans and semi-casual tops and somehow I found that upsetting. In an age where there is a dress code only for the most exclusive of events surely people (women) would cherish every possibility of dressing up? So, yes, excuse the rather dodgy poses but I shall always dress up for the theatre.

My Christmas evening (although it's not really my Christmas but we celebrated nonetheless) was spent watching the delightfully moving 'Grey Gardens' starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.
It began as a pretty movie who's 1930's style looked enticing and inspiring. You soon, however, discover that beneath the glossy costumes there is a real story. There was an original documentary about the characters, both named Edith Bouvier Beale. It is a story of glamour and how difficult and ultimately worthless it is. Also a story of the complicated relationships between mother daughter shot in two different places in time to show the two very different perspectives the characters hold.

I really enjoyed the film. It was inspiring in many ways from fashion to strengths of one's character. I guess I should now say: I advise you to watch it.

My mood is far from festive and for once it's not the teenage hormones. I feel a little sad, a little nostalgic. I'm thinking of the time that has passed and how much of it was spent laughing in hope that it outweighs the times spent in tears. Whilst I'm looking to the past I just wanted to share one of my all time favourite collections. Miu Miu - Spring 2008. It all looked a little childish with the heightened waistlines and harlequin prints. I loved the whimsical feel but most of all it were the collars reminding of the crochet ones I used to wear when I was younger.

Now I know that Natasha together with Sasha Pivovarova and Abbey Lee Kershaw took one look at the shoes and refused to walk the show.

The temperatures in London are seriously low. EVERYONE is wearing trousers/jeans. What do I do? I decide to, inconviniently, brave the cold/snow in a maxi dress and ankle boots. I'm not going to diverge on what happened there and instead will point out that maxis rock. For too long have we worn everything thigh skimming: skirts, shorts, dresses and even boots. As I begin my post/rant I think it would be beneficial (fun too) to watch this video. It talks about Paris's new generation of designers. The video is an extract from a programme that I watched over at Style Bubble. You're welcome to check out the entire thing. (This clip is the fourth one down)

As far as I'm aware Paris doesn't have any sponsorship programmes so the designers are almost set to fail from the start unless they are able to finance it themselves. London has Fashion East and Fashion Fringe; also the press are keen to see who the next trendsetter will be. Basically: there's no snobbery towards the unknown.

This program confirmed that indeed Paris has some amazing talent. If monetary funds were available for them to fall back on, I believe even more would surface to smell the fashion world. Amongst the brilliant names mentioned, it was Alexandre Vauthier that really caught my eye. He has a talent, that is clear from only a few images of his collection. And yet , still, no help.

Is Paris afraid of failure? The city has status and the designers have power. The reviews overall are always positive. No one would dare say a bad word against Chanel or Gaultier. The new designers, sometimes, get a time slot to attempt success but the fashion crowd (power players) don't bother showing up. I think it is the fear that someone attempts a creation that's outside Paris's high standards. In the future, I hope Paris takes a chance on the talent that is holed up in apartments trying to get exposure.

P.S. Ironically as I write this post I am also watching Rihanna perform on Jonathan Ross wearing Alexandre Vauthier and I remember that she's sporting his dress in the video for Russian Roulette. Maybe whilst the fashion crowd ignore the talent, the celebrities can use their powers of advertising to promote the new (true? as in non-commercial, slightly wilder) talent.

Hello all! I sound a little confused in my title but I am well aware that Christmas is coming. Unfortunately, I am not the loving, Christmas time and therefore the LIST is a little late. This isn't actually a list of suggestions (however you're free to draw inspirations) as a way of telling the universe what I would like to receive.

Books are great. People have slightly forgotten about them, although it could just be the my circle of friends. Any kind of picture/fashion/art book is a good buy just make sure that the person on the receiving end has some sort of an interest in the subject. Pretty much all the books I would love to get are available at Urban Outfitters. Don't forget The Sartorialist though.

Tom Ford's private blends are a completely different kind of perfume. The word 'bespoke' seems to spring to mind. The fragrances themselves are unisex which delivers a pungent smell that later transcends into something more delicate. Out of the 12 blends I have only sniffed a few as I was trying to not look strange. I picked Tobacco Vanille as 'my scent'. Of course, it doesn't smell of cigarettes, it is more of a spicy/sweet aroma. Mind you, the blends are pricey and I don't care that the bottles are 100ml. £100 for 100ml. Worth it? Completely.....(I know for sure that Selfridges stock them)

You shan't never forget what day of the week it is! Indeed, with these Stella McCartney panties, you'll just need to look down at your crotch for a pretty reminder. These are amazing! (Net-a-Porter)

Perhaps I'm reverting to my childhood state but there is something captivating about the Louboutin Barbie. Part Barbie part dominatrix with nicer shoes than I'll ever have. You don't need to be 9 to appreciate this beauty and with a £100 price tag, if you are nine, you can't afford it. (Look at Net-a-Porter)

On Thursday I was given the opportunity to be in a photo shoot that revolved around cupcakes that I was required to eat, BIG hair and candy inspired make up. The shoot was for a project with a brilliant photographer, Oscar May, who won from British Vogue award in 2008. During the photo shoot I had a realisation... ...I'm really not cut out for modelling. This was just beauty headshots so I didn't have to worry about 'huge thighs' as one agent had described them. You know how models look normal during the day and when the make up goes on they're transformed into these amazing characters? In a way, I expected the same to happen to me. And...it didn't. I started off as me and after the foundation had smoothed out my skin and the eyeliner added drama to eyes, I didn't feel different. Just a little silly. The picture above was just a phone snap. I'll have the actual (hopefully re-touched) images by the end of the week so you can see what I'm talking about.

So, I picked two more designers to show off their cruise collections. First up is Erdem and my love for his floral prints continues. This time they're darker and more ominous loosing the 'girly' aspect and moving into serious style territory. I love the casual glamour of the floor length dresses that would look amazing at a party and a casual park stroll (as long as you can afford to do that).

Christopher Kane's natural inspiration is far more sinister than florals. Nuclear explosions and a kinds of pre-hurricane clouds are scattered on dresses, t-shirts and jackets. The mesh cut-outs add just the dose of cute whilst simplistic cuts keep the whole collection shic.

I got to thinking about the word 'chic'. Everyone knows what it means and uses it when describing things but then I wondered what does 'chic' actually look like. French women are chic, Chanel bags are chic and so are LBDs but can you look 'chic' everyday without looking over done? I think so. I looked to models and their off-duty style for inspiration on how to put together chic outfits without fail. Here we have the beautiful Eniko Mihalik probably dashing in between shows looking, well, chic. The outfits is easy: black skinnies, tank and a jacket. Things like bows seem to add the chic factor as do the Louboutin and the Chanel bag but they are not necessary. Cheaper items will look just as good because it is not about the individual components but the overall effect. I think, in conclusion, that 'chic' is down to simlicity. Not complicating outfits is the main idea and only choosing accessories that are necessary without piling them on. The colour palete may be limited however it also means that pretty much everything in one's wardrobe will match resulting in less fashion disasters (although they're very fun!)

I've Missed My Blog

I've missed my blog! I thought I'd start by saying that because I've been 'silent' for a while and I know that lots has been happening in the fashion world. I have no excuse, except for the fact that college work is really tiring me out and upon entering my house I manage to watch Veronica Mars (great show) and then sleep. So to celebrate my return I decided to post a few resort collection highlights.
What a difference a few weeks make! I'm of course talking about Balenciaga here as their resort collection is by miles an improvement of what we saw at Paris Fashion Week. Then we had futuristic cyborgs now we have chic ones at least. The collections, in all its high fashion status, remains commerciality (and it is a good thing in this case) whilst being creatively forward. I love the ruffle collar with the belted mini as well as the fitted leather? jacket. Dresses are adorned with romantic patterns and structured to contrast all the femininity.

After the initial awe of the Alexander McQueen show passed, which was a while, curiosity took over as in who will actually wear....THOSE shoes? Seeing is my mind is ridiculously distracted at any point in time I completely forgot about a certain, wonderful fashion creature - Lady GaGa. Of course it would be the great fashion experimenter to attempt walking and even dancing in the monstrously beautiful creation otherwise knows as the Armadillo shoes. She also wore the gold dress and a pair of sculpted heels.

So ugly that they're actually beautiful! The detail in these shoes is crazy (for the lack of a better phrase) and I want to see how the high street (mainly Topshop) are going to interpret them.

These remind me or dragons and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Now, it takes courage (and then some) to actually wear an entire outfit from the lizard inspired collection but that's exactly what couture lover Daphne Guinness did. She chose look 24 completed with pastel coloured shoes that actually looked soft, romantic and quite...wearable? Hmmm....I think I love them.

It's Been A While And I'm Still Void Of Inspiration

As it currently stands, I have very little to blog about due to general life boredom and some college work. Here, I've taken the easy route and decided to display some runway-to-red-carpet looks. First up is Kristen Stewart in Proenza Schouler's charming and aquatically themed dress. I personally like it but it seems to speak louder than Stewart although she looks perfectly great in it. Did I mention that I completely loved Schouler's collection?

It took a matter if minutes before Sienna Miller turned up at some event in the latest look but that was expected, she's young and very concerned with fashion. Demi Moore in Balmain was surprising and surprisingly good. You wouldn't picture someone of Demi's age in Balmain but she is no ordinary woman. The cover of W looks amazing and the dress looks better on Demi (sorry Anja) as there is a considerate lack of protruding hipbones. Viktor&Rolf's last few semi-couture dresses were filled with joy beyond obvious. Not taking the designs seriously and simply drilling holes through them was slightly magical and Katy Perry is an extremely worthy candidate of such 'kooky' things. She didn't go full on with the make up from the show but looked equally great.

To summarise: Wooo! for new season's collections!

Treasures Of London

Jewellery is an interesting concept and one I don't touch on too frequently due to cost matters. Costume and vintage jewellery (the cheap kind) is obviously great as since you don't have to worry about loosing/replacing it too much. When it comes to actual jewellery, I'm kind of afraid to wear it in case the clasp opens or I do something silly to misplace it. So for years now I have paid zero attention to anything above the price tag of £20, that is until I came across the Links of London Grid Collection. The collection of pieces is inspired by London's urban culture and it's great to see it translated not only into clothing but also into more timeless jewellery creations. I mostly liked the music related pendants with the vinyl being my favourite. Prices are quite steep, starting from £50 and going into £400 although, in my opinion, the best pendants are £75-125. The price is quite justifiable, this kind of jewellery won't tarnish after a month and the designs are urban classics, With Christmas (ARRRHH! Even I (The Grinch) have started talking about the 'lovely holiday already) coming up it would make a great present, from someone else to you!

My Look Book

By now everyone should've realised just how much I love stripes. No, really. I LOVE stripes. Red&white, navy&white, grey&black, Black&white - just about any combination works for me and I wear an outfit that includes striped at least twice a week 'cos I'm cool like that. (I refrained really hard from not sayin LOL). What you're seeing is a simple skirt that I picked on on sale somewhere with a long-line stripe top that has some shoulder pad detail and a stud belt. The bag. Lets talk about it. I have discovered a Marc Jacobs in my mum's closet and have firmly claimed it as my own. It's from a few seasons ago but who cares? In my eyes it's a classic.

I'm also mixing silver with gold which is supposed to be a big 'no-no' but in real life people don't have the time to match such details.

I've always found hats to be slightly romanticized in their nature, maybe due to historic nostalgia that is exuded when one wears a hat or the numerous 'tortured' indie boys who walk arounf with fedora/bowler/tribly hats. Nevertheless on a woman they add something mysterious and unarguably stylish since very few actually wear hats nowadays. My prefered hats are berets and crochet beanie types but I am not opposed to a floppy-brimed one that covers my face and obstructs my vision.

I'm not going to go on about Balenciaga but will instead draw your attention to a particular model that walked that show. Concentrate hard and you will see that this is indeed Miranda Kerr. She has obviously made the transition from commercial to high-end and this was doe by the extreme emaciation of her body. Personally, I often admire Victoria's Secret models for the healthy thinness they present so to see one of the 'angels' loose feminity is a tad disheartening. On the other hadn this is Paris and Paris wants the girls as thin as possible so kudos to her for being cast as part of such a huge show.

For The Love Of Lanvin

The show opened with a typically 'Lanvin' look of glamour and sophistication but the fash-pack craved more. Oy, if only they knew what Monsieur Elbaz had in store. What became apparent after a few minutes was that Elbar was taking his 'woman' on a journey. He looked for something deeper which is evident in all the details and some raw edges - perfect imperfections. Flaws make us interesting and enhance the otherwise unatainable air of the clothes.

There show was divided into to parts, at least in my mind. First: day-glam and second: glam-siren. The detailing of the sequined umpsuits makes my eyes water with its sheer beauty and the beading looks too intricate to touch. Colours are simply amazing, spring-like without loosing that luxe richness. Final look was a marchallow-soft gown in array of pink hues.

Normally I'm not interested in jewels. I have no love for precious stones or metals however this has changed a few seasons back when I first witnessed how pearls mean more than Manhattan's Upper-East side. Once again Lanvin delivered piesces that may be more thought after than the frocks. I love the way the necklaces were piled on thus reducing their status, going even further, the models wore one earing only - painting a picture of a woman who is fabulously haphazard.

P.S. As we all know Karl Lagerfeld is no spring chicken, the man is 72 and has been on top of the fashion game for a long time. Many wondered who would take over as creative director of Chanel when Lagerfeld resigns and the name that had been mentioned is Alber Elbaz. It's hard to imagine anyone but Lagerfeld designing Chanel although it would be interesting to see how Elbaz works with tweed.

I'll Meet You At The Barn

Wow..this was certainly unexpected. Who knew that Karl Lagerfeld had a thing for barns? It's actually quite exciting, not him having a thing for barns, but as a concept which Lagerfeld executed amazingly par the shoes. Lily Allen perfomed! You may recall that her video for 'It's Not Fair' was also set in a barn-type of studio so perhaps her and Lagerfeld got together and decided it would oh-so-ironic to share the concept although it could be a fluke, you decide!
Ok, so the shoes. The first part of the collection featured milk-maid clog type of things which was so out of sync with the brand's image my eyes didn't know where to look. On the bright side, just about every look was pure Chanel but cuter. Yes, the word cute is exactly what is needed to describe it as it is paired back Chanel, one that has let it's hair down and rolled about in the hay.
The gowns were of a relaxed glamour that create effortless lines around the body with sheerness to express the naughtier attitude of the Chanel girl this season. The hemlines were flirtaciously thigh-skimming whilst the ivory colours kept it day-light friendly. As always we didn't see a whole lot of colour variation but the man tried with some red outfits aswell as some denim and a small bunch of floral prints -injected as youthful touches.
Another season and another hit (the shoes improved as the show went on) all thanks to Karl's ever evolving vision that doesn't compromise on heritage. The clothes seemed much more 'girl' than 'woman', arguably the main client of the brand, still he should not worry since most women want youthfully tastefull clothes.

Let me open with this statement: I wasn't offended by what I saw. OK, now that I broke out the positive let me dwell on something else: bloody boho. Why is it that every single spring somebody just HAS to produce something boho-inspired...Tired, my eyes, so tired. Having seen Isabel Marants a/w show something convinced me to like the clothes and look forward to the fresh ideas on the runway. Instead we have Kate Moss's casual looks (which I love on Kate Moss) shows to us on the runway. There was a fur coat(!), raggedy looking striped skirt, neon pink dresses (!!!) and strange denimy-trousers. Some items are nice like the odd blazer or t-shirt dress and I am kind of loving the skinny scarves however everything else is just painfully mediocre.
Anyone with me?

Following the Burberry Prorsum show that was filled with trench coats albeit not as fabulous as mine I still decided that it was time for my brand new trench to see the world and face the chilly weather of London. Everyone knows that a trench coat is one of the essentials of a fully-functioning wardrobe and I only got mine a few week back. When I headed for the shops I knew that I wanted a classic looking trench in that beigy/khaki colour that Burberry does so well. What skipped my mind is that being fair skinned comes with many challanges and on of them looking deathly in anything neutral. The classic-coloured trench blent in with my hair and gave my skin a trange sickly tint so off I reached for it's vibrant option which made so much more sense. The moral of that superlong story? Just because it's a classic don't assume it will look great. Just think how many different versions of LBDs are out there. Classis also doesn't have to mean dull so look for something that suits first!

So many words are needed to describe what I feel towards Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 10 as I watch the models sashay down the runway in their silver embelished trench-dresses and amazing draped skirts. I also laugh, just a little, at the way they manoeuvre the runway in gigantic heels. Since my words today are limited I simply want to declare my love by posting a video (the 1st part) so you too can experience the stylish beauty of the brand.

I May Have Flu But I Will Soldier Through Fashion Weeks

My darlings, I have fallen ill which made me fall behind on the fashion weeks and my posts. Believe me, I cried but there is nothing I can do. I haven't finished my London reviews and haven't even started on Milan...so the plan is: skip Milan, finish London, do Paris and come back to Milan at the end. A little silly but I think that's the best I can do. This man produced the fiercest shoulders at LFW and he goes by the name of Todd Lynn. The brand is not so long established so I always look forward to seeing his stuff and he didn't disappoint. Wearable trousers, great hues, draping detail and metal, pointy shoulders all made this a hit!

Twenty8Twelve was the British answer to Erin Wasson x RVCA and to be fair this is some strong competition. The looks were very summery which makes me wonder if they'll get any wear considering how much it rains during the summer but nevermind. I thought the styling was very well done and very errmmm....Sienna. Damn, I hoped to review Twenty8Twelve without mentioning her but yes, indeed, Sienna and Savannah Miller design this collection for those not in the know. All in all it was a lovely, commercial and cute effort with a funky little edge.

Luella is a brand that doesn't particularly impress but it doesn't disappoint either. The colours keep it youthful while the clothes themselves don't do much. A few nice prints here, some hightened waistlines there and a rip-off, sorry, inspiration taken from Balenciaga's armour dresses - make this seasons collection what it is. Maybe I'm nasty because of my chesty cough and inability to breathe through the nose but the brand just isn't evoloving but then again don't fix something if it ain't broke in the eyes of the designer.

Mr.Williamson, You're All Grown Up

I say Matthew Williamson and you say 'Boho!' You may need to alter your answer to the said question since boho he's no more. Everyone is shocked, believe me, what will Sienna Miller wear now? She'll probably continue wearing Williamson and in even bigger doses. Let me say it simply - it was awsome!
A more grown up, suave and cultured looks were shown on the catwalk not only helping with the evolution of the brand but also appealing to a wider demographic of women (not just happy-hippy types). Undeniably this was still Wiliamson in essence but a new angle was projected upon his work and the inclusion of tailoring was lovely to see as a contrast to the items seen in the previous seasons.

A structured frock with minimalist applique

I can decribe the outfit in one word: hot! On a more serious note, the tailored, high-waist short is very now and the what I assume is a knitwear top compliments it perfectly.

Print is a very Williamson element and he does it exceptionally well. It is suprising/refreshing to see one of his floral prints on a structured with subtly defined shoulders.

Embelishment? Check. Shift dress? Check. Inofensive colour? Check. Overall pretty look? Check again. But wait...what is that blazer doing and in a *gasp* black??? I'm guessing it's the transition from Boho Baron to Lord of Luxe.

Now I am simply running out of words but certainly not of appreciation towards the looks. Texture clashes, use of balck and appliqued sleeves. If someone let me near Mr.Williamson I'd hug him and say through the tears: 'I love you!'

Final dress of the show and what a way to end something so spectacular. Distorted floral print, somewhat of a signature, floor sweeping and very worthy of a red carpet.

LWF: Can I See Individuality?

London Fashion Week is the shit - both senses of the expression - of all other fashion weeks. Exactly here you can meet cutting edge with heritage brands taking the stage withing a few hours of each other. That's quite a great thing, no dicrimination, everyone gets a chance to shine (or essentially flop if you've read any of the London show reviews on style.com, seriously harsh). Last season this man brought you futuristic punk and this season it's all gone a little quiet. I'm not seeing innovation as such but I can't slate anything in particular too. The clothes were casual looking, something London almost aslways does, with a free-spirited feel. Splashes of patterns added interest while heirloom detail looked a tad out of place but none-the-less contributing to the over all looks...

Richard Nicoll

Yay! I am actually able to formulate an opinion about this collection! There was something about Louise Gray's clothes that made me smile. The looks were haphazard and pulled together, clashing yet complimenting and I didn't even mind the whacky hair and make up. To me the biggest appeal is the translation of DIY into sophisticated looks but then again I may be on my own when I say that this is reminiscent of any kind of DIY clothes. There's also something so Marc by Marc Jacobs about this but without the 'in-your-face' message unlike the Marc collection that apperently wanted to encourage girls to move away from black and studs in order to be individual ( Don't hold thy breath Marc!).

Anywho...Ultimately the collection is youthful and uninhibited by quotas and profit margins therefore retains it's playfull creativity.

Each and every look was as strong as each other and oh so desirable making this collection a potential favourite of mine. I'll start by saying that it is getting very late therefore my title sucks since something's got to give....Anyway, here we have the chic collection from Lutz&Patmos and while the name may sound unfamiliar get yourself acquainted with the label's look as it appears like a one many people will want to be rocking. The sport-luxe element of this gives the collection it's main appeal in terms of wearability. I would describe the over all feel of the show as a paired down Wang mixed with Stella McCartney. Enjoy!

Thakoon did a great job at capturing imaginations with it's hints of structure and a lovely colour spectrum that reflected the mood of spring without being in our face about it. Draping made an appearancee like in the case of many designers but that doesn't make it any less beautiful as the interpretations of draping at Thakoon are very different to Donna Karan or BCBG for example.

I like the delicately sprikled prints which adorned dresses and also seperates. The models looked paired down yet glamourous partly down to clever make up and majorly thanks to the outfit's that made cocktail dresses look relaxed and casual seperates appear alluring.

Donna and Carolina Take The Floor

Yesterday we saw collections from Carolina Herrera and Donna Karan being unveiled upon the fashion world. Donna Karan didn't really change her look from what we saw last season but altered it a way that this collection still feels fresh and relevant which is impressive as we're in a world where consistency causes boredom. The draping was such a highlight, it skimmed the body and created curves whilst flattering hemlines elongated the legs. I also loved the neautral colour pallete since many designers think that spting/summer means bright, bright, bright and I prefer paired down hued which this beautifully does.

Donna Karan

The other collectio I have to highlight is Carolina Herrera. We all know how fantastic the evening wear is, it being the choice of many Oscar gowns however that is not what impressed me this season. The tailoring in this collection was just spectacular bringing a glamour element to otherwise casual short suits that wouldn't look out of place in an office as well as a cocktail party. Fabric choices really impressed me together with the accessories: belts in particular. Splashes of print added a fun, flirty dimension and of course the evening gowns completed and supported an all around fab collection.

Strong Shoulder

For this look I experimented with how accessories can totally transform an outfit (not exactly groundbreaking news) and decided to take pictures along the way.
The starting point is a simplistic white dress with strong shoulder details that gives a great silhouette and balances proportions of the body and I also adore the hemline as it hits at a very good position on the thigh.

Step 1

The next stage is adding an understated skinny belt in a contrasting colour (Chanel inspiration). This dress does necessarily need a belt because it is body-conscious but in my opinion it breaks down the colour block and continues to add structure to the body.

Step 2

Lastly I complete the look with a statement necklace that has elements of Art Deco whilst adding a luxury element to the otherwise simple look. When the items are put together the look achieved is completely different from the end result taking the dress from modern simplicity to timeless elegance and it makes me feel like a fashion editor on her way to a fashion show which can only be a good thing!

Healthy Kick

Ok, so everyone's been raving about Erin Wasson x RVCA and the latest offrings from Alexander Wang. Sure, I will give you my opinion but I thought I'd start with a different observation. Is it just me or did some of the models actually look healthy? Erin Wasson's line had many hotpants which is great and part of her style but the models wearing them also had meat (in a good sense) on their bones. There was Heidi Mount with great, healthy legs and not too much musce definition which I find really refreshing to looks at. These women are supposed to be models and not gladiators. There was the ever cute Eniko Mihalik sporting *gasp* a woman's body and Lily Donaldson's legs were if anything athletic. It would also be impossible to talk about models without mentioniong the definitive 'It' girl of the moment, Natasha Poly. Considering that she's so high up at the top she probably parties with angels you'd expect her to look like a toothpick and yet her figure soft and feminine.

So does this mean that the trends for skinny bodies had shifted? Not really. I still saw a few girls who could use a sandwich like Chanel Iman but this is still a step in the right direction. The clothes looked so much better on those girls who filled out their statuesque frames so lets hope the designers/casting directors/fashion industry takes notice and keeps booking healthy looking girls. P.S. I liked Eron Wasson for RVCA sue to it's wearable nature and bohemian edginess. Obviously the looks aren't for everyone but this collection really hits it target audience of young girls with laid back style. I was not a fan of Alexander Wang's look. Some outfits were ok but over all I wasn't particularly impressed with the shaplesness of it all.

New York Kick Off

Over the next few weeks I will try and 'cover' fashion weeks as they happen. Obviously I won't be as good as the bloggers who are actually there but I promise to bring you my best picks as soon as the shows are up on style. com

The fashion weeks are on the way with New York opening it's doors to all the fashion insiders. In my opinion New York's fashion week is never 'new' but consistenly presents with fresh interpratations of ideas and it's a good thing. You can always rely on it to produce clothing and trends that will be wearable and look extremely good.

BCBG Max Azria was very good for dresses with lovely draping and a variety of prints. The assymetry and colour palletes ahve already been seen this season but I'm not sick of, I can have a few more one-shouldered things in a shade of purple on my wardrobe.

Vena Cava was really put on the map when the Gossip Girl cast got to wear their clothes in the show. This collection was a particular highlight through it's sophisticated edginess. Many designers did 'rock'n'roll' but those clothes could only be worn by teenagers or people with teenage bodies unlike Vena Cava's designs. This dress deserves a special mention through the simplicity and use of 'rebelios' details. This outfit was a great example os seperates with constellation-prit shorts, wearable t-shirt and a greatly casual cardigan coming together in a manner that is hip but classy.

Vena Cava's last collection is channeled here with the graphic design around the neckline and the dress itself has the perfect balance of proportion: shoulders/waist/hips.

Stud Wars

Remember I told you that I got a casting for JC/DC? Well, to the casting I went. Yesterday in fact, on Fashion's Night Out.
Deciding what to wear was a tedious process since I wanted to look like it was just me being me but I also wanted to look thin since you know, they're looking for thin. I ended up wearing this indigo number adorned with studs and a super-short hem and pairing it with yet more studs in the form of my 5" heels. This look undoubtedly drew attention to me whilst I walked down Oxford and Regents street. Also the shoes just about killed my feet.
I walked into the store only to spot Roisin Murphy (she sounds unfamiliar but I guarantee you've seen her face) try on shoes with her larger than life stylist. I look lost and the shop assistant ask if I'm here for the casting. I say yes and she gets me to fill out a form. Now I wait.
Standing there I check out my 'competition' and spot a girl with her 'book' from Select models: pretty but I'm taller. A man with a big camera walks into the store and I catch him looking at me...Nerves are really kicking in.
I'm invited to go downstairs where I meet the casting director and she says: 'Get Zhenya into the dress, please. No! Wait...actually, give her the jumpsuit'. I go to the changing room and pray that the jumpsuit isn't a sample 0 size. I put it on and result! It's actually big! I am also given funky shoes and asked to walk before 5 people. I do as I'm told but now reflecting upon my walk it was atrocious considering the shoes were 2 sizes too big. The casting director takes a head shot and a full length one.
The male photographer then asks if I mind going back up to the store so he can take a few pictures and obviously I agree. He picks out a position with natural lighting and asks me to pose. I try. *Click, click* 'Good' he announces. 'And one more...That's great'.
I go back to the changing room and give them the jumpsuit (which was oh so cute in white cotton with colourfull poppers on the front and a wide belt). I thank everyone and leave, praying that they aren't too judgemental upon my walk.

Editorial Look

Editorials are brilliant things to look at. It gives the magazine an ability to show off their creativity and imaginations, promotes trendiest clothing of the month, tests the model and the photographer. It all comes together to tell a story and is a lot more complicated than the naked eye will lead you to believe. Another great point of editorials is the styling since some of t combinations are totally mad and truly inspiring. I always loved how clothes can look really thrown together be it vintage tees and jeans or expensive evening dresses and jewellery. On an editorial page every item has the same status regardless of cost: a Lanvin dress thrown with a cheap denim jacket. The trouble is that you can't actually dress as if you're in an editorial in your day to day life because you'll come across as a little more than eccentric. I really loved this story featuring Kate Moss in W magazine. The inspiration behind it was pretty simple but thanks to the amazing shots and Moss's ability to turn anything to gold it came out fantastically well and pushed me to style 3 outfits that would translate editorial looks into everyday fashion. My Look Book: September 3rd

I was looking through the images on my camera and discovered this one I took on Thursday. I was going out for lunch in central London to my favourite sushi place which happens to be right by the Vogue house where I get to spy on what the fashion crowd wears in the office! The outfit wasn't really planned, all I knew is that I wanted to take my new brogues out for a spin. The jumper dress is from next and channeling one of season's hottest hues, red, while my retro denim jacket is just a good way to keep warm.

River Island brogues - £25 I accessorised with lace tights, a rosary necklace and my favourite studed bag from DKNY.

P.S. If you're wondering what language the track is I can reveal that it is Ukrainian as indeed am I. They're a great band, Okean Elzy.

JC/DC wants...Me?

Some time, over a week ago, I was reading news on Elluk.com and found an article saying that JC/DC otherwise known as Jean Charles de Castelbajac is launching a diffusion line that will feature skirt, t-shirts and jackets adorned with his colourfull and quirky designs. It also said that they were looking for models to walk at the launch on September 17th prior to London Fashion Week. I decided to try my luck my emailing them with this headshot: Now, I am not a deluded person and clearly know that I am not 'model material' per say se but at 5"10 I thought I'd give it a try. In my email I also stated my age (16) and my height. Yesterday I got a reply. They want me to come to a casting! The opening lines of the email read: 'We are pleased to inform you that you have what we are looking for, and we would love you to come to the casting for the historic launch of JC/DC!' Whilst a part of me wanted to jump excitedly and then dial my entire contact list as I screame 'YES!YES!YES!' the other part remained realistic. I know why they want me. My height is one of a model and judging by my age they are hoping that puberty hasn't rolled on yet meaning that I must look like a stick-insect. Well, aren't they going to be suprised when they see a 16 year old with a booty to rival J-Lo. I could save myself from disappointement by not going but I figure why not. After all I am very tall and at size 8-10 not exactly over-weight. (I hear Lara Stone is UK size 8). The casting is on Thursday at the Jean Charles de Catelbajac's store so you will hear how it goes!

Ok, it's important that you know that I didn't actually go out dressed like this! I was a little bored and wanted to try the look out and see just how 80's it is. I have worn the bra top out with some high waisted shorts (all Divided Exclusive) and a cardi and well...people in Oxford Street gave me a few dodgy looks. This could well be a party outfit if I want everyone to take notice...

A bra top is one of those trends that emerged on the catwalk and was then forced upon many teenagers by the means on TopShop, I got caught. Of course it's an impractical and fickle trend by I really like it and wearing it under see through blouses is a good wat to use in Autumn. The key to not looking like a street walker is to keep it casual (not exactly what I'm demonstrating in the photo). Putting a skirt, tights and a cardigan/blazer with it is your best bet. Also avoid heels to keep it on the right side of sexy.

I've been meaning to do a post on this but it kept escaping my mind. Finally I have gotten around to it so, Jimmy Choo is doing a collection for H&M!!! Yes, you can tell how excited I am. H&M is really great at picking designer collaborations and this one even sounds reasonable priced at items start at £30. Now, I think that it is perfectly acceptably to pay £30 for shoes or a bag let alone one designed by Jimmy Choo. The collection will include shoes, bag and accessories. There is a range for men and I also heard something about clothing but I say stick to what you know best. The range will be on sale in larger stores nationwide from November 14th. Get saving ladies!

My Look Book: September 1st

Yesterday I got enough energy together to go shopping with a friend and while I didn't buy anything good at least I got to dress up. The looks is obviously inspired by Balmain and the top itself is actually from Zara, What you can't see well in the photo is that the shoulders not only have pads but are also beaded giving exta glam factor. I put a grey, stripe t-shirt from Topshop underneath since I was wearing leggings and didn't was my bum-bum to show! I wore a wasitbelt to balance the proportion and accessorised with a simple silver necklace, plack flats a purple bag (not in the picture). I even left my hair all natural as the models at the Balmian show.

1940's Style

Whilst some designers decided that 1980's is the decade that is going bring in most revenue due to some-what in your face looks others looked to a more conservative but no less glamourous era of the 1940.
In terms of innovation I guess it is nothing new but it's a great look for everyday wear. Many 'classic' designers showed at some varation if it. There was Aquilano.Rimondi's velvet burgundy trench with some shoulder detail and a nipped in waist. Dolce & Gabbana went all out with their silhouette and added costume jewellery. Bottega Veneta did understated chic with the inspiration being taken from the conservative mannerisms of the time.

Translating the look into one's wardrobe is quite easy. Look for vintage inspired dresses with lace and keep the colours neautral unless you want to recreate that Dolce&Gabbana. The idea is not to look like a 1940's throwback but to bring the look alive again. The colour burgundy works well and picking a structured outwear piece in this colour will add a modern look to the soft dress. Wearing chunky ankle boots is another way to update the trend. Note on hemlines: it was a conservative era so, please, not too much thigh.

Accessories, in my opinion, should not overwhelm this look as there's enough going on. A brooch or a cameo necklace with a few rings will be mor than enough. To complete the outfit simply add a vintage/quilted bag.

Sex and The City: Here We Go Again

Now, I don't know about you but I've been a fan of Sex and The City ever since I blew £90 on all the seasons only to discover that the complete collection costs around £50. Anyway when the first movie came out I was over the moon, it was an uber-long SATC episode with even more great clothes, from all the characters and not just the fashion-fearless Bradshaw.

The sequel began filming today (or yesterday, I guess) in New York and there are already pictures! A part of me loves seeing those snapshots but then again I'm disappointed as it kind of spoils the movie.

It's interesting to see what Carrie&Co will wearing to make sure that they are on trend for when the movie is released. I shall leave to to ponder with an image of my all time fasvourite on-screen fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw.

I only have until Friday to enjoy my freedom since college starts! Today I was being completely lazy and instead of being out there, shopping (because I have no idea what to wear to college) I stayed in and read my highly disturbing book (A Clockwork Orange if you're interested). I also managed to find a pair of retro Ralph Lauren jeans and cut them into my new favourite shorts. The shirt is H&M men, the belt is 'vintage look' from Primark and the socks are last year's from River Island. I'm not sure if I'd go out like this but the day I spent in my outfit was very cosy and warm.

Casually strolling through Selfridges I noticed a bizzare looking perfume bottle with an oversized, swirly top and a simplistic bottle. I was then attacked by a spritzer girl that insisted that I try this potion of floral notes. The perfume in question is of course the amazing Lola by Marc Jacobs that grips you with it's bottle before winning you over with the delicate scent. That's what I like about Marc's perfumes: they're very clean. No matter what combination of ingredients go into making the scent they always come out delicate and sophisticated, never over-powering. That was certnly the case with Daisy and now Lola is proving to be a brilliant follow up from the brand.

The outfit here was inspired by the quirky design of the bottle and also the beautiful floral nature of the perfume. The image is taken from the advertising campaign featuring Karlie Kloss.

With Autumn loudly knocking at our doors and every glossy magazine flooding us with the latest fall trends I decided that it was a good time to go shopping. The shop of choice? Suprisingly, River Island. I was never really a fan but lately they ditched the UV vests and embraces ripped denim, studs and chunky knits.
I came across two pairs of boots that I fell in love with. This first pair is rather practical with it's colour and the buckles. I like it's industrial look and I will be able to pair them with 85% of my current clothes.

A lot of people remember these Chloe boots that emerged last year and even after all this time fashionistas are chasing these elusive shoes. Now I am not going to chase them because I can't afford them but I did find an alternative.

What a fabulous coicidence! I'm sure River Island came up with this totally original design by themselves and only then realised the similarities these boots share with the Chloe pair. Either way, I love them.

Top To Kane

Ladies...Christopher Kane is designing a collection for Topshop! When I say collection I don't mean a few pieces that vaguely resemble famous looks from past seasons but an actual collection consisting of 39 pieces including shoes and bags. Yes, some do vaguely resemble past looks but over all it feels very relevant and fresh. The colour pallete isn't too varied but I guess he's trying to inject that 'collection' feel and we also see recurring themes with the eyelet studs. From the lookbook I can see a few dresses that will prove to be a sell out but will I rush to the Oxford Street Topshop the night before 18th September with a tent? Leathered Limbs

Continuing on my previous post I decided to declare my further love of leather this season. We've been sporting leather jackets for years now, trying to bring out the rebel side and it seems that leather is now accepted by the masses as fashion forward and is no longer reserved for ladies of the night and biker chicks. Designers such as YSL and Bottega Veneta are responsible for the sophisticated outlook on leather we now possess.

Anything goes: from dresses to jackets to shorts and skirts. Designers strayed from black but I think that black is most flattering and has longevity in terms of fashion as opposed to the electric blue jacket at Stella McCartney.

The question of leather on leather has the same answer as denim on denim: NO! What I mean is mix textures, if you're wearing a suede skirt don't wear suede boots or if you're wearing a leather dress don't pair it with leather knee-boots of the same texture. This is explored at Pucci where a model wears leather shorts with suede over the knee boots and it looks amazing.

Back In Black

I was in Regent Street's H&M a few days back and I picked up their magazine to see if there's anything eye catching so to my delight there was an editorial of Angela Lindvall titled 'Back In Black'. As the name suggests the photoshoot is black and white and only using a monochrome pallete for the clothing. The styling was impeccable and it was a nice feeling to look at the prices and know I can afford it!

This is inspired by THAT look of the season and the clash of the glam jewel top (customised) and biker jeans looks very urban.

The sexy trousers are given a casual edge with a men's look shirt. The accessories are minimal, just a pair of earrings to keep things feminine. This is my personal favourite look. The dress channels YSL in it's structure with leather being a material of the moment. At £25 it will also be making an appearance in my wardrobe and for once I am temted to completely copy a look.

The combination of glamourous/conservative/provocative is a strong one. It works since the single elements create counter-balance. Underwear as outwear is an idea I would like to flirt and this particular look is done in a very classy way which can be hard to achieve.

This collage was made by me on the numerous occassions of rainy days in London. Now, I would never take my scissors to Vogue or Elle but I will happily cut up the fabulous inserts that come with them like the ones that came with this month's style bibles. All my favourite looks and trends from the shows feature on this collage that has now found it's home on the inside door of my wardrobe therefore whenever I open looking for an outfit I can draw inspiration from it. Colourfull hoisery, sequins for daytime, over sized necklaces, big knits and THOSE shoulders - it just gives me something new to think about when I am getting dressed.

London's Gem

Nestled in the heart of London's posh area, Notting Hill, is a magical place by the name of Portobello Market. This place completely surreal due to numerous market stalls lining the streets as well as many little shops comfortably sitting on it's high street. Portobello is mainly a plave for independant boutiques and vintage stores but if you're after something more expensive, not that the vintage here is cheap, you can find Preen and What Katie Did alongside other designer gems.

This is a great shop for all your vintage jewellery needs: Dior, Lacroix and many other popular brands with afforadle prices.

My other reason to freaquently visit Portobello is it's Hummingbird Bakery, London's answer to Magnolia in Manhattan. The cafe is an amazing place to make a stop for coffee and sample the imaginative freshly baked cupcakes amongst other baked goodness. The bakery became famous for it's cupcakes and it's easy to see why. This particular specimen is 'Red Velvet' cupcake named after the vivid colour. Now, the simple outfit I wore when I went there. Cut off denim shorts paired with a floral cami, layered necklaces, a blazer and completed with a pair of gladiators.

Scents play an important part in getting dressed and creating a look since scents have the ability to set the tone: a spritz of something rosy may inspire you to be romantic with your outfit or an edgy scent can add a different dimension to a simlistic look. It comes across as strange to talk about a scent as part of an outfit because it is not visible but it can make you feel good when you don't think you look it. Scents also have the ability to take you back to a particular place in your memory be it a holiday or a great party, it can remind you of people, places and emotion therefore to me perfume will always play a big part in my wardrobe.

I Am Body Conscious

Body-con dresses are no longer hot property when it comes to catwalks, or at least not as much as last season, but for those leading a more normanl life body-con dresses have become a real wardrobe staple. They are easy to wear and look great dressed up and down so you definately get your money's worth.
Looking through Brown's fashion website I found this majestic Alexander Wang dress and the price is quite enticing, £85. It also comes in black but to me grey is just more of an urban colour and makes a nice change from LBDs.

Sasha Pivovarova-Russia

It would be difficult to talk about Slavic models woithout mentioning Sasha. She is in a completely different legue compared to a lot of models as she is an all rounder: catwalk, cover girl, editorial. Her look serves as an inspiration for Miucca Prada who now always books her for the shows and campaign. Sasha is an artist, a vegeterian and is married to a photographer.

Natasha Poly-Russia

I probably shouldn't say this but Natasha is my favourite from the crop of Slavic girls. To me her cheekbones are a subject of comlete fascination and her walk is simply mesmerising. She marries elegance and sex-appeal to create a look that is so in demand right now.

Daria Werbowy-Ukraine

Many people think that Daria is Canadian but in fact she was born in Ukraine making her one of the top girls on my list. Daria has a classicly great model look: almond eyes, defined cheekbones and long legs. She has been the face of Lancome for a few years now revealing her softer side while also rocking the catwalk.

Anja Rubik-Poland

Anja is somewhat of a veteran when it comes to modelling because she has been at it for 10 years. Her lean, slender frame is what gets her repeat booking for shows like Stella McCartney and Chloe. She's a great editorial girl as well as the face of many brands.

Maryna Linchuck-Belarus

Maryna's look is strong and destinctive making her an irreplacable face for designers who use her for the catwalk as well as print ads. She is the current face of Miss Dior Cherie whilst also being busy ranking up numerous editorials.

Rokit was one of the first vintage shops that I ventured into. I loved the simple decor and the way that the clothes is organised giving it more of a boutique feel but with affordable pieces. Rokit is now online and I decided to bring you my current favourite items from there. Enjoy!

What a treat! A Diane Von Furstenberg boho look top. Perfect for festivals and great for a casually dressed down look.

A 1980's navy dress with a delicate white floral print. A great summer treat that won't look out of place with autumn outfits. Straw bags are somewhat of a classic and I especially like the gold woven into this.

Another 1980's dress this time with pussybow detailing and a slight Marc by Marc Jacobs feel. The subtle paisley print keeps it on the right side of boho.

My favourite piece is this 1970's sheer number. Put it together with a vintage silk slip and you have a look that is moden, sexy and nostalgic.

I took a liking to Zac Posen while watching 'Stylista' and realising that not only is he a master of construction but is also very cute. Watching his amazing black dress on Charlotte in Sex and the City just fuelled my fondness of him.

Seeing his latest collection I couldn't stop myself feeling underwhelmed. I loved the pieces as individuals but the collection didn't have a feel of unity or fluidity. Some of the outfits looked random and as if they were added at the last minute. Also I could not figure out where the inspiration came from since some of the pieces had Victorian detailing while others made me think of the Russian Matryoshka dolls.

Slavic Storm In A Teacup: Part 1

I have long had a fascination with the models behind the designer clothes. So often their beauty is played down to let the clothes speak although sometimes that beauty is hard to silence and what you get is a union where the model is as important as the outfit she is wearing. The catwalks are now populated by girls with not just super long legs and incredibly slim bodies but also girls with personality that bring the garments alive.

When researching the current 'it' models I came across a trend that isn't very surprising - Eastern European Girls. Perhaps it is their 'natural' body type, strapping will power to not eat or razor-sharp cheek bones that make them so successful in this industry.

I decided to dedicate a three-part post to the most influential Eastern European Models of the Moment.

Vogue's September Issue

This is her 16th British Vogue cover and I don't think she'll stop there. I will be bringing you the cliff notes of the Vogue contents later this week so for the time being you'll have to make do with the cover!

Sorry, You're Not A Winner

Mrs.B, I see you're trying very hard to be taken seriously by the fashon world: you don't smile or eat. Let's not forget the collection of dresses you recently unleashed upon the fashionistas. I can bet you want to know my opinion and I am in a good enough mood to give it to you. One word: Yawn. I can see where you've taken your 'influences' from but we already have a Roland Mouret and he's fantastic at what he does so while immitation is the highest form of flattery surely you'd rather be known for your creativity and innovation? Sorry, I forgot that you don't actually design the pieces but 'know how they should fit'. That is a talent!

One of the more memorable pieces was this wool-blend dress even though to me it echoes a ceirtain Marc Jacobs worn by her and Kate Moss. I know the fabrics and decorative techniques are different but there's some sort of an annoying resembalance here.

Another 'simple, structured' piece with some exposed zip detailing... The collection doesn't have the 'wow' or any other factors. Simple is sometimes best but what I saw did not achieve the kind of simplicity that Calvin Klein was built on and the price tag was not justified in any shape or form. Come on, Mrs.B, have some toast although that may cause activity within the braincells resulting with a surge of creativity however I won't hold my breath.

I have a confession to make and to those closely involved with the fashion world (or a desire to be) this may come as a shock. I’ve never been into haute couture. Go ahead, gasp and sigh but I do have a semi-logical explanation. The finances that have magically accumulated in my bank account aren’t any good when it comes to buying good, old prêt-à-porter therefore a couture piece is as elusive as ever. I don’t view couture as clothing to be worn, to me it is art to be admired. Seriously, replace dull galleries with show-casings of haute couture and then you’ll get people taking interest. Hearing the news that, arguably, the world’s greatest couturier is about to ‘stall production’ due to the economic crises was not pleasant. So perhaps the fact that he has never turned a profit in his extensive history with the couture house served as an indicator but it was non the less disappointing that I would never lay my eyes on another collection inspired by the Ukrainian virgin brides.

Lacroix’s (last?) collection was funded privately by the man himself with the models only getting paid €50. The colours were watered down to reflect the financial state of the company with fewer displays of the extravagance that he is known for. The last piece was an exuberant wedding dress decorated to perfection, in a way it was Lacroix’s manner of signing of whilst saying this is what I am about and if I am unable to do it, I won’t do it at all.
